John Rosatti, Taking Care Of Your Child During Holidays
Parents and children wait for their holidays, as it is the best part of the year. No doubt a whole lot of activities are planned much in advance to make holidays pleasurable. It is the working parents that face a lot of problems when their children have holidays and have to stay at home unattended. It is difficult for them to make arrangements for their children to be looked after when they are at work and all the more difficult to keep them occupied and entertained. Working parents may not be able to take off from work during their child?s holidays and require childcare, and the question that arises is, what is a good childcare option for your child?

Family members are the best choice if one is at work. Grandparents or other elderly members could help look after children. Grandparents would love to spend time with their grandchildren. When children are away at school they do not get enough time to spend with the other members of the family, as they get busy with their school activities.

Friends are the next best option if you do not have someone from the family to help. Friends could help, provided the children share a good rapport with them, as your child might not want to spend time with someone whom he or she is not familiar with.

If no help is available form both family and friends you could opt for your child?s friend?s parents who could help as they may also be in the same situation as you. They can share the options that they have chosen for their child, and if you wish to choose the same it would be favorable for your child too as he would have his friend there. Your child?s teachers could also be a helpful resource in giving you information about childcare as they interact with parents of other children. The school office of your child could be another source of information. Teachers who may want to organize different activities in the holidays for children who are interested and for those who cannot spend the entire day at home, usually leave notices and pamphlets in the school offices. Childcare providers also leave details about their services in school offices.

Various community services may also provide childcare services. Such services generally prove to be more safe and reliable for the child. Childcare services organized by the YMCA and other well-known organizations during the holidays for children are staffed and managed very well and are affordable. You could put your child in such a childcare service without having to worry.

If your child is older you could think about taking him to work with you after of course, checking with your boss if it is okay to do so. Children old enough can help parents at work or else they can be occupied with the tasks they like. If your child is not at ease at your work place, then you could think of something else for him, but chose something that your child would be interested in.

Options for childcare are many - you should be aware of them and make the right choice that suits the need of your child. Make your choice at the earliest and do not wait until your child begins his holidays.
